Meghan Hurley – Artistic Director, Director & Actress
I’m originally from Tulsa and have lived here most of my life. The fact that I’m from Tulsa boggles my mind (my father was born and raised in Los Angeles and my mother from New York). Since I’m the newest council member, I’m going to write my bio a little differently!
What I do: I’m an event planner! I spend most of my days fielding calls and emails from clients, with most of my weekends spent orchestrating a wedding or party. Events are like a big theatrical production to me, so it was easy for me to move into this field. It’s one of the most stressful jobs out there, but I do love it.
What I do for fun: Honestly, a good conversation is a good time for me. I believe fun can be had at any time/any place. Yes, I’ve had fun at a funeral. No, it was not inappropriate. Yes, other people had fun with me. Life is to be enjoyed. There are so many crazy moments that I definitely take time to smell the roses.
What I do for love: I act. I direct. I sing. I draw. I paint. I write. I dance. I create. The art of creation is the most powerful gift.
Why I do theatre: For me, it’s the process. Whether I’m the actor and I just had that “Aha!” moment where I finally got the playwright’s intend or I’m teaching a class and I see that very same moment in a child’s eye…that’s it for me. I love challenges and problems. Theatre doesn’t drain my energy, it feeds it. It’s like a day at the spa, but without all the oils.
Why Theatre Pops: Randy has really been the driving force behind this company for most of its existence. I’ve enjoyed watching the works that the company has produced over the years. I enjoy the overall energy and passion for theatre that the company exudes. I’m so excited about the direction the company is going, and the next couple of years are going to be amazing! Thank you Randy for giving me a position on the council!
